New Ranking: #6 Best Place to Raise a Family

October 27th, 2009

Must have been a good week for sixes. Immediately after it’s #6 ranking among the best mid-size cities to start a small business, Lexington followed up with another #6. This time, it is the #6 best place to raise a family. Children’s Health magazine used a comprehensive statistical analysis to rank cities on more than 30 factors that parents deem vitally important, including crime and safety, education, economics, housing, cultural attractions, and health. The top cities were the ones that best complemented family life.

Pretty easy sell, isn’t it? Great place to start a business, then raise a family.

New Ranking: #2 For Relocating a Family

January 28th, 2009

As I am updating our popular Bluegrass Rankings, Lexington continues to rise to the top as a great place to live and work.

In mid 2008, Worldwide ERC® and Primacy Relocation released their  2008 Best Cities for Relocating Families. The rankings are split between metro size, with Lexington considered a small metro. Lexington’s #2 ranking among the small metros puts it ahead of such places as Durham, NC and Madison, WI.

For the 2008 rankings, there was a special emphasis on the local economy and housing market. Also in the mix were such factors as recent job growth, frequency of pediatricians and top-ranked universities, as well as a new green index which measures environmental incentives and policies, the availability of biofuel, wind power generation, and the amount of energy-efficient buildings.
